Nidec Conversion publishes its first Sustainability Report: A tangible commitment to energy transition and Net Zero Targets
A historic milestone confirming Nidec Conversion’s role as a key player in global decarbonization, driven by cutting-edge technological solutions and ambitious ESG objectives:
- Nidec Conversion has launched a structured program for real-time monitoring of energy consumption within their processes.
- The transition to 100% renewable electricity at the Cinisello Balsamo and San Cipriano Picentino plants has resulted in a reduction of over 400 tonnes of CO2 in emissions.
- In terms of circular economy, Nidec Conversion achieved a rate of 98.81% of waste sent for recycling or recovery.
- Training is key to innovation: Nidec Conversion invested an average of over 16.4 hours of training per employee in FY2024.
Milan, 22 October 2025 – Nidec Conversion, a leading operator in power conversion solutions, industrial automation, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and in the design and manufacture of large rotating electrical machines, proudly announces the publication of its first Sustainability Report, covering FY2024.
The document, guided by the concept “Powering the Change, Driving Sustainability”, outlines the company’s tangible commitment to promoting industrial growth that is fully responsible from an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspective. The Report not only represents a voluntary exercise in transparency towards all stakeholders but also aims to underscore Nidec Conversion’s active role in supporting the global energy transition.
Nidec Conversion’s sustainability strategy is fully aligned with the principles and vision promoted by the Nidec Group. This synergistic approach ensures that the commitment to ESG excellence is cross-sectoral across all operations and supported by global resources and governance. Integration with the Group strengthens the company’s ability to accelerate the energy transition, not only through its own technologies but also by adopting international best practices, particularly in supply chain management, compliance, and the promotion of an ethical and safe corporate culture worldwide.
A tangible contribution to the global energy transition
Nidec Conversion positions itself as a key player in the global energy transition, with an impact that manifests on two fronts. The first front is the external impact of the technologies produced for decarbonization; the company provides technologies that enable and support the energy transition—such as energy conversion and storage systems, high-efficiency inverters, and motors—which are fundamental for the expansion of renewable sources, the stability of electrical grids, and the electrification of strategic industrial sectors. In particular, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), STATCOMs, and Synchronous Compensators are essential solutions to compensate for the loss of grid inertia and enable greater penetration of renewables.
The second front is the commitment by the company itself. Nidec Conversion has formalized an ESG Improvement Plan targeting Net Zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040 and achieve the Net Zero including Scope 3 emissions (across the value chain) by 2050.
The Report lists the milestones achieved by Nidec Conversion, demonstrating that sustainable innovation is already an operational reality. In addition to the transition to 100% renewable electricity at the Cinisello Balsamo and San Cipriano Picentino plants, which cut over 400 tonnes of CO2 over the course of FY2024, Nidec Conversion has launched a structured program to monitor and audit their energy consumption. Specifically, the Monfalcone site, which accounts for approximately 57% of total corporate energy consumption, was selected as the primary electromechanical manufacturing hub, while the Montebello Vicentino site was selected as a model for electronic production facilities. The analysis conducted at the two sites made it possible to identify the key points where to install real-time monitoring systems, whose insights will be progressively extended to other global sites such as Qingdao (China), Brooklyn Heights (USA), Salzbergen (Germany), Roche-la-Molière (France), and Chennai (India), enhancing operational efficiency worldwide.
Nidec Conversion is implementing policies and action plans aimed at reducing water withdrawals at high water-stress sites and managing pollution risks arising from its operations, with a particular focus on air emissions and the use of chemical substances. With such plans in place, overall energy intensity was reduced to 6.11 MWh/kh (kilowatt-hours processed per thousand hours worked) compared to the previous fiscal year (6.60 MW/kh), and the share of waste sent for recycling or recovery reached 98.81% of the total, marking an improvement over the previous year and an increase in systems dedicated to the circular economy.
On the Social level, Nidec Conversion, with 1,938 employees, invested an average of 16.4 hours of training per employee, strengthening skills and corporate culture, with particular attention to health and safety in the workplace. Finally, the company’s commitment to ethics and transparency was formally recognized with the ISO 37001 certification (anti-bribery management system) for 50% of global facilities.
Dominique Llonch President and CEO of Nidec Conversion, and President of Nidec Energy, commented: “We are proud to present our first Sustainability Report, a significant milestone that strengthens our dialogue with stakeholders and transparency regarding our daily commitment. Nidec Conversion positions itself as a key player in the ecological transition, offering energy conversion and storage systems that not only enable the expansion of renewables and grid stability but also contribute concretely to the decarbonization of the economy — a commitment that guides our every strategic decision.”
Simone Cascioli, Global HSE & ESG Director, added: “Robust ESG governance is the foundation of sustainable success. By integrating ethics, transparency, and respect for human rights into every aspect of our operations, we not only uphold our commitments but also build lasting trust with all our stakeholders. Our products are designed with the green economy in mind, driving innovation that actively supports climate change mitigation and a low-carbon future.”
The publication of this first Sustainability Report is a milestone in Nidec Conversion’s ESG journey. The Report offers a clear and transparent vision of the actions undertaken, the progress measured, and the objectives that will guide the company in the coming years toward the Net Zero goal. In this way, Nidec Conversion reaffirms its willingness to take an active role in shaping a more sustainable energy future, inviting all stakeholders—from customers to partners, from employees to local communities—to consult the complete document and participate in this collective commitment to sustainability.
